Self Reflection

Serelle McPherson here giving my farewell blog post aka SELF REFLECTION!!! Over the past semester, I have learned a lot in the Freshman Seminar course. Not only was there a lot of information presented to us, but the course also gave me an insight to the different ways of thinking critically.

I can remember the first day of class, I had walked in thinking that this was going to be just an easy "fly by" course, which I'm positive A LOT of people thought. Many people told me that the course was super easy, which it was, but then again they made it seem like it was pointless, and it couldn't have been farther from that.

The Mbongi forms were new to me, but they helped me to improve my skills in the areas of multitasking, organizing information, and time management. Being that the forms were due at the end of the class, I had to listen to the lectures, write the information down and retain the information all before 10am.

The trip to the African Burial Ground was very interesting to me. It not only taught me about the African language and the symbols, but it also exposed to me a history I had never heard of, especially because some of those people could've been my ancestors. The thought that all of those bodies were buried under the very ground we walked on, the streets we drove on, left me with mixed emotions. After leaving the site, the chance to do some shopping was appreciated as well. =)

In reflection, I can say that this course was very much necessary for Freshman to take. It gave us insight into a lot of information on our history and ancestry, and also gave us the opportunity to critically think on our own with the research project.

Lastly, I would like to say that this class was very beneficial to me, and that if I could, I would take it again...
