The 5

Greetings to all! This is Serelle McPherson and this blog is going to be a blog on the presentation done by one of my peer groups. The group named themselves "The 5" and they did their research assignment on the social issue of breast cancer. The research question for the group was:

"What is the Susan G. Komen project and how does it help spread awareness?"

I personally liked the fact that they decided to do their project on the issue of breast cancer because it is something that is very important and the Susan G. Komen foundation has done a really good job of making sure that people are aware of it. Another aspect of the group's presentation that I liked is that all of the members wore pink to support the cause, which I'm sure some people didn't even notice.

In my lifetime, I haven't personally been affected by the issue of breast cancer, but I am sure that if I had, the Susan G. Komen foundation would be of great assistance to me in my efforts to get answers. The foundation does a lot more than many otherr foundations just to raise awareness about breast cancer and get support on their efforts to find a cure. The Susan G. Komen foundation has mastered the art of advertising through their various collaborations with outside products. I have been able to recognize the "fight for the cure" symbol of the "pink ribbon" on

1. food
2. tattoo designs
3. clothing
4. jewelry
5. shoes
...and many, many other marketing tools.

The overall presentation and topic of the group was very much appreciated, but reflecting on it, I have to admit that they didn't really pose a research question that met the requirements for the assignment. They indeed asked and answered a question, and did research on the matter, but because of the way that they approached the subject, they didn't have a way of telling how they could help or how the social problem could be solved. Maybe if they had thought into the topic a little harder, they would have been able to come up with a better question.
