On November 9, 2010 "The Five" group presented their group project. The question they proposed was "What is the Susan G. komen project and how has it impacted breast cancer?" The Susan G. Komen project is a worldwide breast cancer charity and about 10.4% of women across the world have breast cancer. Doctors recommend self-breast exams in order to detect breast cancer. Prevention can be attained by limiting the use of alcohol and maintaining a healthy body weight. The pain of breast cancer can wear you down, leave you emotional, and cause nervousness. Also some women feel exhaustion and fatigue after undergoing chemotherapy. Chemotherapy is one kind of treatment for breast cancer. Other treatments include surgery and x-rays to kill cancer cells. The stress of breast cancer can cause anxiety, depression, and feelings of hopelessness. It can also lead to bad sleeping habits, and the use of drugs. Women sometimes drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes because they can not deal with the stress.
I think that "The Five" presentation was good overall. They all wore pink in honor of breast cancer research and everyone discussed a different aspect of breast cancer. Although they presented a lot of great research I think they should have discussed exactly how the Susan G. Komen project raised awareness. They could have talked about breast cancer walks in the month of October and the various fundraisers that are held by this organization. Overall however their project and PowerPoint was very organized and informative. I enjoyed this presentation because my mother was diagonsed with breast cancer when I was younger, however she went through chemotherapy and survived. It is very important for women and men to be informed about this disease.
