On November 2, 2010, "3HBG" presented their group project. This was the first group project to be presented. The group question they proposed was "How can we continue to prevent the spread of HIV/ AIDS incoming freshman girls ?" This question was very interesting because there is a high rate of HIV/ AIDS in the District of Columbia. One solution they proposed for stopping the spread of AIDS was educating freshman girls about sex and STDS. The group presented a lot of statistics and information about AIDS. They also discussed the pros and cons of distributing condoms at Howard University. Giving out condoms can help stop the spread of AIDS, however, at the same time it encourages students to have more sex. Personally I think schools should give out condoms because some people might not have money to buy protection and people are more likely to use condoms when they're free. I think that it was interesting that the group focused on only freshman girls. I would have liked to see "3HBG" compare the HIV/AIDS rates in both women and men at Howard University. They said, however, they focused on girls because they are all currently freshman girls and they did not want the information to be bias. Also they chose to focus on girls because there are currently more girls than boys at Howard. In addition, I think that the group should have discussed more ways to stop the spread of AIDS such as more HIV testing or encouraging abstinence. Overall I think that this group proposed a great question but their powerpoint could have been more complex and detailed. I felt like the information they presented was limited and they could have did more with this topic.
