"Genome goes beyond science" by: Ashley Alele

The title of today's lecture was Abandonment, Dismemberment, and Reawakening: The History and Legacy of Howard. The speaker was Georgia M. Dungston, Ph.D. I really liked her speech but I felt it didnt really correlate with the title of the lecture. She began by asking a couple students what makes them phenomenal. She told us that wisdom is knowing how to use knowledge to solve promblems. Ms. Dungston taught us the characteristics of wisdom which included value, volume, speed, quality, and quantity. She said we need wisdom to do what we were put on Earth to do.

Ms. Dungston then made us collectively say: "I am on time, I am on point, I am on purpose." I felt that this was an impowereing quote although she never mentioned its originator. Next she told us three things our Genome gives in total inheritance: 1.) Amount of info we use to describe ourselves and superficially requires less than 1/10 of 1% of our total inheritance, 2.) It takes less than 2% of your total inheritance to make all the parts of your body, and 3.) To enjoy total life and health, we need to be aware of our complete inheritance.

The three principles of teaching are to 1.) Tell them what you're going to tell them, 2.) Tell them, and 3.) Tell them what you told them. Ms. Dungston then gave us her definition of Genome which is the complete set of instructions each of us recieve from our parents for operating the human body, it is the quintessential gift of life. Webster defines Genome as a full set of chromosomes; all the inheritable ttaits of an organism. She told us we needed knowledge from the genome about who we are to solve social promblems of today. An interesting fact I learned was that Howard has the only Human Genome center in the United States.

Ms. Dungston ended the lecture by telling us our Genome was unique and was about self-discovery and you must find out who you are. I enjoyed this lecture because i've never heard about Genome before this today. She was a great speaker overall.
